nick wood Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 Hi All, I was given a 2004 Ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi xl private hire vehicle. Drove it to Mallorca & I now neeed to put it on Spanish Plates. I know nothing about the Galaxy apart from the fact it was a brilliant to drive down. I believe this may be the Mk 2? I have been told that there are other headlamps from the Sharan & Alhambra that will fit this Galaxy. Could anyone please confirm for me what lights from the galaxy range will fit this galaxy & what other vehicle headlamps will fit it? Does anyone have any European Headlamps that will fit this that they would like to sell? New ones are outragously priced for what the car is worth. If not I will try & source from Spanish dismantelers. Is the replacement straightforward, I saw in one of the topics that they are not conventional bolts? Many ThanksNick Wood Newbie Quote

Willie Krashitt Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 2004 = Mk2, so only Galaxy light units will fit. Best thing to do is look to dismantlers/ebay as new ones as you point out are outrageously priced. Would masking (properly located as per TIS/TSB instruction be ok for plating purposes?George. Quote

Could you confirm for me if I can use VW or Seat as another member who was kind enough to reply says Galaxy lamps only? Thanks Nick Wood Quote

Hi George, Unlikely I would get car through with the deflectors fitted, would love to though. Could you confirm you only think Galaxy lamps would fit, another member who was kind enough to reply says others should fit & certainly on ebay they are listing as fitting Galaxy, Sharan & Alhambra? Many ThanksNick Wood Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted June 5, 2010 Report Posted June 5, 2010 For Mk 1 (pre 2000) models, the lights are all the same, VW or Ford. With the Mk2 (2000 on), VW and Ford decided to differentiate the two models further and the galaxy gained "New Edge Styling" meaning Focus style triangular lights on the front with a correspondingly different bonnet and grille, and a similarly different rear in-door light units. So you can fit VW/SEAT headlights to a Galaxy, but you would have to fit the corresponding radiator grille and bonnet, which makes it a rather expensive thing to do unless you get the bonnet really cheaply. Hope this clears it up for you. George. Quote

daviddawkins Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) Hi Nick, I live in Germany, so we of course use European Headlights over here too, so If you find out Exactly what you want, please let me know and I will see If I can get you a Set Cheap. You said that you have to put your vehicle on Spainish plates?? Can you not leave the vehicle registered in UK and just change the lights? There are a few reasons for this: 1. You would have to have another MOT in Spain, as their system is different 2. You would have to get a New Log book for your vehicle, (A Spainish one) 3. You would have to take out another insurance All this costs Money and they also might charge you Tax on your vehicle (VAT) for bringing it into the Country. If it is possible for you to leaft it UK reg´´ it would work out much cheaper. Or you could of course buy another Galaxy which is already on the Spainish system! Kind regards, David, Germany Edited August 10, 2010 by daviddawkins Quote
